Building a World From the Ground Up
Filmmaker and director Jared Lee and Grim Film approached us to bring the opening world of Grimoire, Jared's anthology film, to life. Designed to tie together three of his celebrated works, the cinematic opening needed to be immersive and compelling, drawing audiences into the film during its month-long run at selected GSC Cinemas nationwide as part of the Malaysia Animation Film Festival 2024.
A City That Tells the Story
Our challenge was building an entire dystopian environment from scratch, creating a world that reflected the old man's story at the heart of the narrative. More than just a backdrop, the back alley became a character in itself, together with the wandering robot. Every shadow, texture, and detail had to be carefully crafted to feel intentional and real.
Cinema Ready, Built in 3D
Using Unreal Engine, we built an entire dystopian city street from the ground up, combining custom world-building, KitBash3D assets, and an iPhone virtual camera to create a cinematic 3D opening sequence fit for the big screen. This introduction helped to seamlessly unify Jared’s acclaimed short films into one cohesive anthology, including Horologist - the first Malaysian film to win Best Animation at the San Diego Comic-Con Film Festival in 2023.
